Oklahoma to Clash With Nebraska in Big 12 Championship Game

The Oklahoma Sooners earned the right to be crowned Big 12 South champions on the football field Saturday night, but they had to wait until Sunday night's releasing of the latest BCS rankings to know they'd make their eighth appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game.

By defeating Oklahoma State 47-41 on Saturday, OU forced a three-way tie for first place in the Big 12 South with the Cowboys and Texas A&M. The criteria for breaking the three-way tie came down to best BCS ranking after all prior tiebreakers yielded no winner, and the Sooners jumped ahead of the Cowboys to No. 9 in the rankings released Sunday night.

So that means the Sooners will meet No. 13 Nebraska in a matchup of perennial powers in Saturday's Big 12 Championship Game at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

It was assumed Saturday night that Oklahoma would appear in its fourth conference championship game in five years, but it wasn't official until the BCS poll came out. There was a slim chance Texas A&M might move close enough in the latest poll to actually earn the South's top spot, by virtue of defeating the Sooners in head-to-head competition this season. But the Aggies actually dropped one place in the latest BCS poll from No. 17 to No. 18 after defeating Texas on Thursday night.

Oklahoma State, which was No. 9 in last week's BCS poll, dropped to No. 14 after Saturday night's home loss that derailed its chance to play in the program's first Big 12 Championship Game.
