Signs of Hope for Toomer's Corner Trees

There is hope yet for the trees of Toomer's Corner.

It had long been assumed that Auburn University's storied old oak trees, poisoned a few months back by crazed Alabama fan Harvey Updyke Jr., would die because of the high levels of herbicide they had absorbed. But now Auburn horticulturist Gary Keever says there is some slight hope that the trees might actually survive.

Hokies, Tide Agree to Chick-fil-A Rematch

The Hokies want another shot at the Crimson Tide.

In 2009, Virginia Tech kicked off their campaign with a tough season-opening showdown against Nick Saban and Alabama in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. Though the Hokies put up a good fight for a while, the Tide--a team that would go on to win the national title--was simply too strong, too fast and too good. They won, 34-24.

QB Bolden to Return to Happy Valley?

Rob Bolden will return to--and compete for the starting quarterback job at--Penn State.

At least, that's what it looks like.

Bolden, whose future in Happy Valley has been in doubt since his asked for his release last winter (Joe Paterno smartly refused the request), has spent much of the spring saying not much of anything about his situation. As a result, speculation about the talented sophomore-to-be has raged pretty much unchecked.

For LSU, Cooperation With NCAA Was Key

Hey, it could have been worse, LSU fans.

The suddenly very active NCAA on Tuesday accepted LSU's self-imposed penalties for rules violations stemming from the recruitment of former defensive lineman Akiem Hicks. Though the violations were found to be "major"--a former Tigers assistant named D.J. McCarthy apparently lined up both housing and transportation for Hicks, then tried to cover it up--the NCAA agreed that LSU would be sufficiently punished by the loss of two scholarships and a 10 percent reduction in recruiting visits.

Yes, Channing Crowder Still Has All of His Jerseys

OK, everyone, Channing Crowder was just joking. Seriously.

Crowder, whom you may recall from his days as a linebacker down at Florida, raised somewhat of a ruckus earlier this week when he hinted that he, like Ohio State's much-maligned Terrelle Pryor, had sold some of his football-related items for profit during his time in college.
