Non-AQ Report: UCF Appreciates Ranking, Wants Conference Title

Central Florida might be ranked for the first time in program history, but coach George O'Leary isn't going to let that change his team.

The Knights, No. 23 in this week's coaches poll and the highest ranked team from Florida in that poll, need a win against Southern Miss this week to clinch the Conference USA East title and play for a conference championship for the first time since 2007.

"We have still not clinched anything yet," O'Leary said. "We have a very tough road this weekend. Southern Miss is a very good football team. I think the players have handled it very well. I continually stress that our goal is a conference championship. That sets up everything that we need to get as far as how far we can go as far as the Liberty Bowl is concerned.

"Obviously, we would have liked to have taken care of the non-conference games (Kansas State and N.C. State), which elevates you a little bit more. That's always a push when we are doing that. We treat every game the same way. That is why it is great when we play 12 one-game seasons because that is the only focus that week."
