A-10 Preview: Xavier, Temple Lead the Way

There are mid-major basketball conferences, and there is the Atlantic 10, long considered one of the top in that regard.

There are household names like Xavier and Temple, who seem to perennially advance into the NCAA Tournament. But now, schools like Richmond and Dayton like to stick around for a little March Madness. When you consider that four other teams (Saint Louis, Duquesne, Rhode Island and Charlotte) are knocking on that NCAA Tournament door, you'll see that the A-10 isn't the top-heavy conference that many of the uninitiated believe it to be.

The focus will still be on Xavier and Temple, as it should be. Both the Musketeers and the Owls went 14-2 in conference play last year, and led six A-10 teams that won 20 or more games.

Xavier will have to replace Jordan Crawford, who was selected in the first round of the NBA Draft, but expectations are high for second-year coach Chris Mack. Xavier has a well balanced squad that will continue to grow under Mack, and he's brought in a recruiting class to drool over.
