Jelan Kendrick, Star Freshman, Dismissed by Memphis

Jelan KendrickJelan Kendrick, a McDonald's All-American guard out of Atlanta, has been booted off the 19th-ranked Memphis Tigers by coach Josh Pastner.

In a statement, Pastner said that he met with Kendrick and they both decided it was best to part ways after the true freshman missed two weeks of preseason practice. Memphis had suspended Kendrick in October after run-ins between the guard and teammates. Kendrick played an exhibition after being reinstated and even came clean to teammates on his anger problems. But another setback has Kendrick's basketball career in flux.

Per NCAA rules, Kendrick will have to sit out this season before transferring to another program next year. He will also be ineligible to join the NBA D-League due to having enrolled at Memphis this year.

Scout.com ranked Kendrick as the third-best shooting guard prospect to come out of high school last year.
