Wisconsin Takes Down No. 1 Ohio State in Camp Randall

MADISON, Wis. -- Ohio State came in to Camp Randall Stadium as king of the hill, but Wisconsin turned it into the chump on the hump with a 31-18 victory.

Faster than you could say "David Gilreath," Wisconsin had Ohio State in its pocket. The Badgers' wide receiver ran back the opening kickoff 97 yards to put his team up 7-0. After a perfunctory four-play Buckeye possession, the Badgers turned to their rock-hauler, running back John Clay, who gashed the Buckeye defense repeatedly before punching it in from 14 yards out. With barely five minutes of the game gone, Wisconsin had a 14-0 lead and Ohio State was neutralized.

Wisconsin's fast start threw Ohio State out of its game plan. Terrelle Pryor was forced to throw to receivers who just weren't open because the Badgers had stifled OSU's running game. When Wisconsin got the ball back, its merciless rotation of running backs turned the old "three yards and a cloud of dust" into "seven yards and a gale-force wind." After a 10-minute, 89-yard drive the Badgers went up by 21. An OSU field goal halfway through the second quarter seemed less like a scoring drive and more like a plea for attention.

There's a reason they play the whole game. Ohio State came out in the second half and slammed the ball down Wisconsin's throat, bruising the Badgers on a nine-rush, one-pass drive which ended with a 13-yard touchdown run from Dan Herron. Wisconsin then drove to the OSU 47 but punted on fourth and maybe half a yard. Many in the stands were left wondering why Bret Bielema, not known for taking his foot off the throttle, kicked it away.
