Kansas State Picked as Overwhelming Favorite to Win Big 12

The Kansas State Wildcats -- the team many media outlets are pegging as a preseason consensus Top-10 squad -- received yet another first Tuesday when they were selected as the preseason Big 12 favorites over rival and perennial power Kansas.

Those are some heavy expectations.

But apparently the Big 12 coaches believe in overwhelming fashion that the Wildcats will be that good this season. Kansas State received 10 first place votes for 119 points, while the Jayhawks came in second in the preseason poll with two first place votes and 109 points. Big 12 rules do allow coaches to vote for their own team, so it is obvious K-State coach Frank Martin cast his vote for Kansas while Jayhawks coach Bill Self wrote the Wildcats in on his ballot.

The highest K-State had been picked in previous Big 12 preseason polls was fourth for the 2007-08 and 2009-10 campaigns. This year, however, most are predicting a breakthrough for a Wildcat program that has been on the rise for the past few years.
