Robbie Hummel Reportedly Will Return to Purdue in 2011-12

Robbie Hummel to return to Purdue for fifth season medical redshirtRobbie Hummel lost what was supposed to be his senior year on the first day of practice this past Saturday. His Purdue career, however, is not over, according to a report in the Lafayette Journal and Courier.

Hummel will opt to have surgery on his torn ACL over Thanksgiving weekend, so it doesn't conflict with his classes, and then plans to return to the Boilermakers for a fifth season, after getting a medical redshirt for this coming season. His father told the Journal and Courier that Hummel plans to announce Wednesday he will make this decision.

The 6-foot-8 senior is on schedule to graduate, but it's possible he enrolls in graduate school during his fifth year in West Lafayette.

Hummel would still miss the chance to see the Boilermakers' long-planned dream season with fellow senior stars JaJuan Johnson and E'Twaun Moore, but his return to the Boilers for a fifth season would leave Purdue quite the strong team for next season -- assuming he can stay healthy.

Hummel averaged 15.7 points and 6.9 rebounds a game last season and is generally regarded as one of the best players in the nation.
