Marcell Dareus Reportedly Referred to Gary Wichard by John Blake

John Blake, the former University of North Carolina assistant coach tied to NFL agent Gary Wichard, reportedly recommended Wichard to Alabama defensive end Marcell Dareus, according to a report from Yahoo! Sports. The report states that Dareus informed NCAA investigators of the recommendation.

Blake and Wichard, currently at the center of investigations into agent tampering at several college football programs, have in the past denied any such endorsements, but the news surrounding Dareus puts those claims in severe doubt. Dareus, the MVP of the 2010 BCS championship game, was suspended for two games earlier this season for receiving improper benefits from agents during offseason trips to Miami.

According to the report, Blake first recruited Marceus when he was in high school, and maintained contact afterwards, eventually suggesting that Dareus and Weslye Saunders, the South Carolina tight end who has dealt with his own troubles, sign with Wichard.
