Scott Lang, La Roche College Basketball Coach, Dies After Collapsing at Practice

Scott Lang, the longtime men's basketball coach at La Roche College, died at a hospital Friday night after collapsing at practice.

Lang, 41, had coached at the Division III school in Pittsburgh for 18 years, the last 14 as head coach.

According to school officials, the coach collapsed during practice around 5 p.m ET. A trainer performed CPR and Lang was transported to a hospital, but could not be resuscitated.

"Coach Lang ... touched the lives of countless players, students, faculty and staff," the school said in a statement posted on its web site.

"We have lost a great friend, a man of unwavering faith and a beloved role model and mentor to his team and so many of our students," school president Sister Candace Introcaso said.

The Redhawks men's and women's basketball games Saturday against La Roche College's Penn State Behrend have been postponed.

When he was named head coach at 27, he was the youngest NCAA men's coach in the nation at 27.

La Roche is 7-1 this season.
