Matt Carlino Leaves UCLA Without Playing a Game

UCLA is down to nine scholarship players after freshman guard Matt Carlino (photo, second from right) announced his intention to transfer Friday.

Carlino, from Scottsdale, Ariz., had not yet played in a game. He sustained a concussion in practice before the first regular-season game. He was medically cleared to play in UCLA's last four games, but hadn't been used since.

According to a UCLA release, Carlino will transfer immediately and has not made a decision as to where he will transfer.

"Matt is a good kid and I have enjoyed having him in our program," UCLA coach Ben Howland said in a press release. "I wish him nothing but the best as he searches for a program where he will have a chance to play more minutes than we envision he will have here."
