Five men's college basketball coaches have been nominated for the inaugural United Nations NGO Positive Peace Award.Bill Self of Kansas has been nominated due to his work with the Boy Scouts of America. Tennessee Tech coach Mike Sutton has been recognized for his work with G.O. Ministries, Inc.
The other three coaches -- Ron Hunter of IUPUI, Scott Nagy of South Dakota State and John Calipari of Kentucky -- are nominated on the strength of their work with Samaritan's Feet, a program which sends shoes to homeless children across the world. Also nominated in the coaching category are Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale for working with Journey Church and Glenforest School basketball coach William Knopf for joining up with the above coaches in working for Samaritan's Feet.
