No Pressure Here: Stanford Stifles UCLA

STANFORD, Calif. -- UCLA shouldn't feel so bad. No. 4 Stanford has made a few top-10 teams look bad at Maples Pavilion this year.

Xavier was ranked No. 4 when Stanford beat it by 37 points in December.

Connecticut, well, the Huskies were No. 1 when the Cardinal beat them by 12 two days later.

No. 8 UCLA, hoping to prove that it was at least going to be a close race for the Pac-10 title, came up way short Thursday night on Stanford's home floor, losing 64-38.

That's three top-10 opponents and a combined margin of 75 points.

"The bar is really high for this team and they want it high," said Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer. "This wasn't pretty, but we'll do it better the next time."

If Stanford is playing to its perfectionist nature, that's got to be a depressing thought for the rest of the Pac-10.

The Cardinal (15-2, 6-0) won their 43rd straight game against a conference opponent -- the last loss came on the road against Cal in 2009 -- their 55th straight game at home and made UCLA's vaunted pressure defense look like little more than a nuisance.
