The Kansas City Star is reporting that Kelly may have violated a rule in the team handbook, speculated to be a violation of the athletic department's substance abuse policy. It is unclear what his playing status will be during the investigation, though he remains on the team. Kelly is appealing that a violation occurred.
This isn't Kelly's first brush with disciplinary action, either. He was suspended the first three games of the season by coach Frank Martin, and he also missed six games for receiving impermissible benefits.
If the appeal is unsuccessful and Kelly is indeed kicked off the team, it will be the third Wildcat player to leave the program this season. Freddy Asprilla transferred earlier in the season and Wally Judge quit last week.
On the year, Kelly is averaging 9.9 points a game for Kansas State. The Wildcats entered the season ranked in the top five, but a myriad of off the court issues have plagued K-State. This will simply be another in a long line of debilitating events in an otherwise forgettable season for Frank Martin's team.
