Charlie Weis Reportedly Named Florida's New Offensive Coordinator

Charlie WeisCharlie Weis is leaving his job with the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL to become the offensive coordinator at Florida under new coach Will Muschamp, the Associated Press is reporting. Mutual interest between Weis and Florida was first reported by ESPN Friday.

Weis, as the offensive coordinator, has helped mold the Chiefs into one of the surprise teams in the NFL this season, but reports indicate Chiefs coach Todd Haley would be fine with losing Weis. Reportedly the reason is because he could replace Weis with Josh McDaniels, who was recently fired as coach of the Denver Broncos but has a past with Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel.

Weis has also been the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets and New England Patriots.

His lone stint in college came as a head coach, from 2005-2009 at Notre Dame. He went 19-6 in his first two seasons as the Irish coach, but stumbled mightily the following season at 3-9. He went 13-12 in the last two seasons before being fired in favor of current Irish coach Brian Kelly.

Muschamp was named to replace Urban Meyer, whose resignation as the Gators' coach was effective with Saturday's 37-24 victory over Penn State in the Gator Bowl. Steve Addazio, Florida's OC in 2010, is the new coach at Temple.

Muschamp was in attendance at the Gator Bowl but not on the sidelines.
