"A lot of the coaches and the players all have their jokes saying, 'Oh, Vai made this trip,' and whatever," Taua said. "I told those guys, 'That's not right.' But it's all in good fun. I'm excited to get back out here and show what I can do in this bowl game and make up a little bit for last year."
Taua missed the Hawaii Bowl last season after he was declared academically ineligible. With fellow running back Luke Lippincott also out because of injury, Nevada's only consistent rushing threat was quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Nevada's star running back vividly remembers watching the game from his family home in Lompoc, Calif., as the Wolf Pack endured a 45-10 beatdown at the hands of SMU.
