Without Jim Harbaugh, Stanford Becomes Much Less Interesting

When Jim Harbaugh moves on -- and here's betting on the "when'" comes within days -- Stanford will continue to win its Director's Cup Trophies, its Olympic sports titles, continue to be the best place in the country to combine world-class athletics and world-class academics.

But when Harbaugh packs up his office and takes his leave -- for San Francisco or Miami or Denver or Oakland or Carolina -- Stanford will suddenly become be a much less interesting place.

Harbaugh has made himself too appealing, too interesting, too dynamic to stick around on The Farm. He's simply too good to be leading his team out on to the field in front of a half-empty stadium.
