C.J. Lee was a captain on the Michigan Wolverines basketball team that knocked off No. 21 Clemson and stuck with No. 2-seed Oklahoma in the 2009 NCAA tournament, but now he's done with basketball. He has a job in the private sector, but is also publicly supporting Rick Snyder, the republican candidate for governor in Michigan. He appeared in a TV commercial for the potential governor last Monday, a spot that aired a day after a debate between Michigan's two gubernatorial candidates.
"I was asked to do a commercial," Lee told several Michigan outlets recently. "I'm not in an official role, but I'm very connected with Rick. ... I met him a number of years ago when I interned at SPARK."
Snyder is squaring off against democratic candidate Virg Bernero and leads in several polls.
The Detroit Free-Press posed the question that, should Snyder win the election, would there be a spot in his administration for the former UM guard who happened to be in Michigan's school of public policy? Reportedly, Lee met the question with a simple laugh.
