UConn Is No. 1 in Preseason Women's Hoops Poll

(AP) Connecticut begins the season the same way it has the last two -- No. 1 in The Associated Press preseason Top 25 women's basketball poll.

UConn received 39 of the 40 first-place votes Friday from a national media panel. The Huskies have been No. 1 for 44 straight weeks, a streak dating to Feb. 18, 2008. It's the eighth time in school history UConn has held the AP's top preseason ranking.

Baylor received the other first-place vote and is second. The two teams will meet on Nov. 16 in an early showdown. Stanford, Tennessee, and Xavier rounded out the first five.
