Introducing: The Longhorn Network
College football powerbroker Jim Delany had a difficult time selling cable companies on a network built around an entire conference.
So just imagine the task that awaits Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds and the good folks at ESPN, who have to somehow convince cable executives to pay for a channel about a single school.

Luck, who spurned the NFL to return for another season at Stanford, was simply outstanding in the Cardinal's spring game this weekend, throwing for 165 yards and three touchdowns as he led the Cardinal team to a 42-3 win over the White team at Kezar Stadium. He completed 16 of 22 passes on the day.

For Ohio State, a Preview of Life Without Pryor
Yesterday in Columbus, the Ohio State Buckeyes got their first taste of life without Terrelle Pryor.
And, really, it wasn't all that bad.
With Pryor not playing in the Buckeyes' spring game because of his pending five-game suspension for the 2011 season, four other Ohio State signalcallers stepped in to take the erstwhile superstar's place. None of those passers shined brighter than true freshman Braxton Miller.

Delany: Ohio State Troubles Do Not Stain Big Ten
When Jim Delany speaks, the college football world listens.
Or, at the very least, the college football world should listen. Because whether you like the man or not, the fact remains that he's among the most powerful men in the sport. And this week, the Big Ten commissioner spoke to his new constituency--the people of Nebraska.

Good News for Irish: WR Floyd in the Clear (Probably)
After weeks of speculation, we finally have some clarity about the Michael Floyd situation at Notre Dame.
Though no definitive word has been handed down regarding the star wideout's status for 2011, the university's Office of Residential Life on Friday reportedly decided to spare Floyd from a full-season suspension--the punishment that many Irish fans had feared most of all. Instead, it appears that Floyd will have to simply perform community service, and possibly deal with additional punishment from coach Brian Kelly. Most importantly, however, it appears that Floyd will be available for the Irish when the season kicks off.

Kelly: Decision on WR Floyd Expected Soon
Notre Dame needs Michael Floyd in 2011.
This week, the Irish will find out if they're going to have him.
Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said on Friday that he expects to learn within days whether Floyd will be available to play this coming season. The star wideout's future with the team was thrown into doubt in late March, when he was arrested for driviing while intoxicated. That marked the third time Floyd had been charged with an alcohol-related offense since his arrival in South Bend.

Ralph Nader's Latest Crusade? Getting Rid of Athletic Scholarships
Great, this is exactly what we need: Ralph Nader, the least sports-knowledgeable man on the planet, is sticking his nose into college football.
Nader, who has built his career as a consumer advocate, political busybody and failed presidential candidate, has apparently grown bored with his work crusading against corporations and the like. So now, he's setting his sights on a new target: College athletics.

Let's get this out of the way right up front: Jim Tressel probably isn't going anywhere. Because he wins too much.
Of course, that inconvenient little truth certainly hasn't stopped countless bloggers, columnists and others in the college football media from speculating endlessly about what might come next for Ohio State's troubled head coach, and his scandal-plagued program.

Beamer: Hokies LB Gibson Will Transfer
Lyndell Gibson pushed his luck. Today, he learned he apparently pushed his luck too far.
Gibson, who has started 18 games at linebacker for Virginia Tech, will not be back with the team next season, coach Frank Beamer has announced. During a teleconference on Monday, Beamer said that Gibson, wideout Austin Fuller and defensive back Jacob Sykes would all be transferring out of the program at the end of the semester. He said the Tech staff wished the best for the three players, but added that he would "not have any further comment" about any of them.

Eric LeGrand, Paralyzed Rutgers Player, Makes First Public Appearance
Filed under: Rutgers
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand made his first public appearance since being paralyzed in a game against Army more than four months ago.LeGrand attended a "Laugh to Heal Comedy Fest Fundraiser" for him at the Rutgers Athletic Center on Saturday.
"I just want to thank everybody for coming out here today and I'm just going to keep on chopping during my rehab," LeGrand told the crowd of approximately 3,000 who attended the comedy show featuring Rutgers alumnus Bill Bellamy.
The event was for the "Eric LeGrand Believe Fund."
Rutgers spokesman Jason Baum did not know on Monday how much money was raised over the weekend.
It was LeGrand's second trip to Rutgers since the injury. He also joined his teammates for the first team meeting of the semester in January.
The junior defensive tackle has resumed his coursework at Rutgers, joining via videoconference last month for a class on "Blacks and Economic Structures."
LeGrand remains paralyzed below the neck. The Avenel, N.J., resident fractured his C3 and C4 vertebrae while making a head-first tackle on a kickoff in the win over Army at New Meadowlands Stadium.
LeGrand has regained movement in his shoulders and is experiencing sensation throughout his body. He is undergoing rehabilitation at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, N.J.

Vanderbilt Destroys Hapless LSU
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Jeffery Taylor scored 20 points and No. 18 Vanderbilt outscored LSU 49-26 in the second half for a comfortable 90-69 victory Saturday.John Jenkins overcame a slow start to finish with 17 points for Vanderbilt (21-7, 9-5 Southeastern Conference), which bounced back from its first loss in six games last Tuesday against state rival Tennessee.
Vanderbilt, which shot 54.4 percent (31 of 57), trailed 43-41 at halftime but surged into the lead for good early in the second half with a 14-0 run during which Taylor dunked twice and hit two free throws.
Storm Warren had a career-high 24 points and Ralston Turner added 18 for LSU (11-18, 3-11), which has lost 11 of 12 games.
Andre Stringer scored 10 points for the Tigers, who on Wednesday had snapped a 10-game losing streak with a victory at Mississippi State.
A strong first half put LSU in position to make it two straight wins, but the Tigers wound up looking overmatched by the Commodores, who had five players in double figures, including Lance Gilbourne and Brad Tinsley with 16 each and Festus Ezeli with 15.
Double-digit scoring is the norm for all Vandy starters but Gilbourne, who came in averaging 6.5 points and 6.7 rebounds. He easily eclipsed both averages against LSU, grabbing a season-high 17 rebounds.
Taylor, meanwhile, made his first six field goals. Four were dunks, including a soaring double-pump two-hander on a baseline drive, but he also hit a 3 and a turnaround fade from the baseline as he was fouled.
He didn't miss until 5 minutes remained and finished 6 of 8, along with 7 of 12 on free throws.
Both teams shot better than 57 percent in a first half loaded with offensive highlights.
Turner gave LSU the early edge when he hit three perimeter jumpers, one from 3-point range, during an 11-0 run that put the Tigers on top 20-13.
Vandy fought back to grab a 28-26 lead on a 5-0 spurt the included Gilbourne's 3 and Taylor's fast-break dunk that was set up by Stringer's turnover.
Turner, who had 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting in the first half, gave LSU the lead right back with a 3, then Warren followed with a short jumper and a dunk, both set up by Chris Bass, who had five assists in the half.
Warren, who had 18 points in the first half, helped LSU go ahead 43-40 with his short bank shot and a heady assist on a jump pass to Garrett Green under the basket.
LSU opened the second half with Stringer's tough one-handed driving floater off the glass to go up 45-41, but the Tigers would not score again for the next 4-plus minutes when Vanderbilt, as expected, finally began to assert its dominance.
