Texas A&M 2012 Baseball Schedule

For Texas A&M, the Waiting Game Begins
For Texas A&M, a long season of awkwardness in the Big 12 awaits.
After days of speculation and widespread rumors that the Aggies were on the cusp of a move to the SEC, officials from that conference on Sunday decided to do ... well, nothing. At least, nothing with regard to expansion--or A&M.

A Victory for Aesthetics: Cy-Hawk Trophy Design to be Scrapped
This is not just a victory for Iowans. This is not just a victory for the Big Ten or the Big 12, and this is not just a victory for college football as a whole. No, this is much more than that.

Buckeyes Sport Wristbands in Honor of Tressel. Then Have to Give Them Back.
Time to let it go, Buckeyes.
With preseason just underway in Columbus, it seems that some Ohio State players can't quite come to grips with the end of The Jim Tressel Era. In fact, a group of incoming Buckeye freshman apparently went so far as to show up at a news conference this week wearing wristbands emblazoned with the letters "JT."

Boston College is bad geographic fit in the ACC. Maryland, for all of its historical ties to the league, has always felt like something of a redheaded stepchild in the ACC.

New Report Could be Catastrophic Blow for Miami
I'd hate to overreact here, as there is still much we don't know, but I have to say: For the Miami Hurricanes, the latest news from the world of college football has "complete and utter catastrophe" written all over it.

A Very Long Column About the Long-Awaited and Much-Needed Return of College Football
Hot. It's been very hot.
Humid and stifling and darn near deadly. From Maine to Minnesota to New Mexico, these United States of ours have been enveloped in a heat wave of historic and deeply annoying proportions.

Surprise, Surprise: More Turmoil in Big 12 Country
The Big 12 has been stabilized. The future is bright. All is well on the plains.
Right?
Um, no. Not quite.
Just one year after America's Most Endangered Conference saw flagship members Nebraska and Colorado flee for greener pastures--those moves ultimately led to much speculation about the possible dissolution of the entire conference--the rumors of the league's imminent demise remain as strong as ever. And for good reason: Nobody, it seems, actually wants to be there.

In Wake of NCAA Response, Things Looking Up for Ohio State
The NCAA already had an image problem. On Friday, that problem got worse.
With the entirety of the college football world fully expecting the NCAA to come down on hard on Ohio State in the wake of the Jim Tressel/Terrelle Pryor mess, college football's governing body (though, really, can we honestly call it that anymore?) has instead chosen (apparently) to do almost nothing at all about one of the most high-profile college football scandals of the past decade. As a result, Buckeye Nation may be spared disaster.

UC Davis Promotes Vaughn To Head Baseball Coach

Nebraska Picked to Win Big Ten. They Won't, Though.
And the favorite to win the Big Ten in 2011 is ... Nebraska?
Yes, Nebraska.
With Ohio State falling apart before our eyes, with Michigan rebuilding under Brady Hoke, with Penn State apparently flying under the radar, and with nobody taking Michigan State seriously enough, a vote of media members covering the Big Ten (but not an official vote; for some unknown reason, the ever-stodgy Big Ten this year put a stop to its official preseason vote) revealed the Cornhuskers to be the most popular choice...

For LSU, Cooperation With NCAA Was Key
Hey, it could have been worse, LSU fans.
The suddenly very active NCAA on Tuesday accepted LSU's self-imposed penalties for rules violations stemming from the recruitment of former defensive lineman Akiem Hicks. Though the violations were found to be "major"--a former Tigers assistant named D.J. McCarthy apparently lined up both housing and transportation for Hicks, then tried to cover it up--the NCAA agreed that LSU would be sufficiently punished by the loss of two scholarships and a 10 percent reduction in recruiting visits.

With Independence Looming, BYU Relying on Mendenhall's Leadership
BYU is going independent--and the powers-that-be in Provo apparently believe that Bronco Mendenhall is the guy to lead their program into those unchartered waters.
On Tuesday, BYU officials announced that they had extended Mendenhall's contract through the 2013 season. In a statement, BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe called Mendenhall "an incredible leader and one of the best coaches in the country."
